A Call to Cardinal Values

In May 2001, Bob Brown was the only Greens voice in the Senate, but in 2010 they won 13 per cent of the popular vote to take the balance of power in both chambers, with a voice that is even louder than their numbers would warrant.

"They've thrived so far because they've escaped the sort of scrutiny that's regularly put on the Catholic Church," Pell tells The Weekend Australian.

The intelligentsia might face a rude shock if a change to the Marriage Act was put to a referendum, he agrees. "Same-sex marriage is not going to revive the Labor fortunes in Queensland or in the western suburbs of Sydney."

At almost 71, the cardinal offers no indication he is ready to retire from controversy; quite the reverse. On Monday night he will be debating Richard Dawkins, the spokesman for militant atheism, on ABC's Q&A.

"Australian common sense is still deeply imbued with many Christian notions. The notion of a fair go, I think, is impossible to understand without Christianity," he says. "If you go back to the ancient Greeks, Aristotle and Plato didn't give human rights to slaves or to foreigners.

The chattering classes are in for a very rude shock

I can only hope Dawkins rips him a new one! Sadly Hitchens is not on the circuit any longer!

Why the hell is it accepted that refusal to acknowledge reproductive motions in the anal passage is somehow 'christian'.

The nations that ban poo shooting are today all avowed atheist nations. China , Vietnam & North Korea are all officially athiest states. The USSR also fitted this category.
While conversely all the majority christian nations are f,aggot friendly to the extent where the US makes it official state policy to pursue the right to engage in anal turd burglary even outside their own jurisdiction.

PNG, the Solomons, buddhist Burma and obviously a fair chunk of Islamic nations have outlawed clacker prodding.

Because traditionally being anti liberal was associated with being prudish which was a common christian stance on just about anything fun!

Not all of them. As mentioned the Islamic nations have banned it even if their definition is a little liberal! In the case of the others it more about state control that some abiding moral position!

Christians are everything friendly (well other than condoms, abortion and medical research) you know turn the other cheek, we are all gods creations BS BS BS! They think if they dont give into temptation to do anything unpleasant god will save them if they * up say like trusting Muslims! Christianity for all its good points is essentially either a path to gogds grace if you believe or a philosophy of assured extinction. Im voting for the latter!

I believe one should carefully anal-ise comments coming from hershey brown, nearly all christian sects who by and large have wrongly interpreted Christianity. Lets see it all started going
pearshaped with the rabid lot below imposing noting that any bishops that did not sign onto these man made laws were exiled.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea

Even in the below the old testament allows multiple wives (re populate after wars etc sound familiar yes the muslimers have adopted these practices and codified them).
1 Timothy 3:2, 12

"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach. . . . Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."

In conclusion, as mutie mention state policy of enabling back door banditry is a crime against god if you are religious and i crime against nature if you are not.
